:: Travel – 2 days in Milano with my Best Friend

As seen on my Instagram, I went on a 2-day short trip to Milan before Christmas. Quite a short time span to discover such a big city but I think we made the best out of it. Here goes my Milano travel diary.

Hier kommt mein Mailand Travel Diary.

On Monday morning we took the first flight and arrived in Milan as soon as the sun was up. We took the airport shuttle that we comfortably booked beforehand online to Milan Central Station and walked 10 minutes to our hotel located in that area. After freshening up we took our first trip with the metro straight to the Duomo. For a 2-day trip I definitely suggest to buy the 48h ticket which will take you easily anywhere in the main zone for both days.

At Plazza de Duomo there are two of the most popular sights. Of course the Duomo itself and also the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

We are talking about a shopping passage with incredibly beautiful architecture. Luxury stores such as Prada, Versace and Gucci can be found here. It is a little paradise for all fashionistas. If I were rich, I would have bought everything 😉 But simply taking in the atmosphere and looking at the carefully arranged window decorations is a reason to go.

If that isn’t reason enough for you, there is one more highlight: the Pasticceria Marchesi, a traditional house of patisseries in Milan. Their store located in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II has another special though. The interior is designed by Prada. Going there is  quite expensive for those who are only looking for a coffee but a very nice experience for those who want some Prada but can’t afford a bag. The atmosphere is wonderful and very calm although it is placed right in the tourism area (or at least it was when I was there) and the service is super kind. PS: Eyecandy amongst the waiters inclusive 😛

For a small pot of Earl Grey tea and a small Sacher cake, a chcolocate croissant and a latte macchiato we paid altogether 27€. It is up to you whether you think it is worth the money but I was very happy about my visit there.

The down part of traveling in winter is that it gets dark very fast. But we took advantage of that and took the metro to our next stop that would be more impressive when dark. The Naviglio Grande, Milan’s river, that is lit with beautiful lights at night. We simply strolled along the river and found cute book shops and artist’s ateliers/galleries here and there. If you are looking for a nice café there, That’s Bakery is supposed to be really good, but I didn’t get to try it anymore.

The next day we went back to the Duomo de Milano. This time to admire the gothic architecture, we went inside and also climbed to the rooftop. Photos of the latter, will follow in a next post because we shot some pretty special photos up there. A must-go on a Milan trip for sure! You will be able to choose between stairs and lift – the stairs are ok to take but you will have to walk in a tight stone staircase for a while without knowing where you are and where you are going haha.

After the climb and a long photoshoot we came back down to the ground hungry. A friend advised us to try a pizza bar called Spontini that is 3 minutes away from the duomo. There are only three classic types of pizza that are sold single or in menus including a drink but it is very cheap and nevertheless super delicious.

After a long walk down some more shopping streets and a little bit of taking the tram (a good alternative to discover streets of Milan when it gets rainy), we already went to get our luggage and spend the rest of our time at another café. This time we went to Pavé. From outside you would almost miss it but from inside it is a pretty mixture of cozy vintage armchairs and a skandinavian working space atmosphere. Pavé is my favorite discovery during my Milan trip. Amazingly good coffee and creative deserts for a good price speak for themselves.
